The 2014 Kenai Peninsula Borough Cross Country Running Championships, the first of the Big 3 races for cross country running, were contested on the Nikiski trails on Tuesday with runners from throughout the Kenai Peninsula vying for individual and team awards.
Girls Championship Results
The Soldotna High girls raced to the team title placing three runners in the top ten; the Homer girls finished second in the team scoring.
Allie Ostrander, KCHS senior, won the girls 3-kilometer event with a time of 10:10. SoHi’s Oliva Hutchings finished second with a time of 11:32, followed by Homer’s Megan Pitzman. Kenai’s Riana Boonstra finished fourth followed by SoHi’s Dani McCormick, 6th and Daisy Nelson, 9th.
Boys Championship Results
The Kenai Kardinal boys captured the borough team title on the strength of a one-two finish for the Theisen brothers.
In the 3-kilometer race, Jonah Theisen held-off brother Jordan Theisen for the individual title. Jonah completed the course in 9:37, followed by Jordan at 9:50. Kenai’s Travis Cooper finished fourth overall; SoHi’s Aaron Swedburg, 5th and SoHi’s Daniel Shuler, 8th and Levi Michael , 9th.
