Sen. Gary Stevens(R) will face off against Robert “Moose” Henrichs (D) for Senate District P in the November 4 general election.

Stevens said his top concern is Alaska’s budget.

Stevens: “Everyone that I’ve talked to has told me how much they need additional funds and I understand it and I know they need it I know they’d like to do more programs and do more things, I’ve just spent this last week with the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and they have some real needs to get out there and do some additional marketing and I hope that we can do some of those things but the reality is that we can’t fund everything and so I suspect we’re going to be having to look at some reductions in almost every element of our budget.”

Due to redistricting, Senate District P will now represent some of Funny River Road along with Seldovia, Kachemak, and Kodiak.

Stevens said he plans to spend more time in the new areas he may represent.

Stevens: “I’m going to spend some time there, we have some times scheduled, and it just requires getting around, letting people know you’re running and what your positions are and what your concerns are.”
