At the October 14 Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting there was little discussion on a resolution for increased monitoring at the Central Peninsula Landfill.
Assembly Member Brent Johnson detailed what brought on the $60,000 increase to the Solid Waste Capital Project Fund.
Johnson: “The landfill folks received a letter from DEC letting us know that we need these additional gas monitoring probes, so this is the funding to do that.”
The Solid Waste Department submitted a plan on July 1 to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation that included expansion of the current monitoring system by installing six new probes surrounding the facility.
The Alaska DEC accepted that plan and the Solid Waste Department plans to informally solicit cost proposals from possible contractors.
