Soldotna to Categorize Top Priorities

In the October 15 Soldotna City Council meeting the city’s top legislative priorities for FY16 were introduced.

City Manager Mark Dixson recapped the night’s discussion.

Dixson: “Number one project on the list is the Soldotna Regional Sports Center but as was discussed tonight that’s really a regional project and we’d like to see if funded as a regional project, similar to what the city of Kenai also has some regional projects on their list and then after the regional projects are purely city requests, with the number one after that being the replacement of our maintenance shop.”

Council Member Linda Murphy discussed her concerns with the Soldotna Regional Sports Center Expansion being the top priority for the city as it demonstrates a regional value. Council Member Pete Sprague followed up by requesting the top priorities to be categorized somewhat like the City of Kenai’s top priorities: projects with regional value and city specific projects.

Dixson said that previously in a work session Soldotna unofficially agreed to match $3 million to the expansion project.

Dixson: “Well the rest of the monies would come from hopefully the state, possibly some federal grants and hopefully some corporate grants.”

The top priorities for FY16 passed unanimously with the amendment to categorize them.
