New Fees for Nikiski Post Office Effective November 1

The Nikiski Post Office has been undergoing changes recently and box holders will notice a change in fees effective November 1.

United States Postal Service Spokeswoman Dawn Peppinger said the changes were brought on by the contract postal unit changing to a “move to competitive”, or MTC unit.

Peppinger: “When we change an office to MTC some rates go up some rates go down. Originally it was supposed to start October 1st but it got pushed back to November 1st so that the customers are alerted to these changes.”

She added that there is a notice of the fee changes posted in the post office building and box holders will notice the changes on their next box rent notice.

One big advantage of the change is that Nikiski box holders will be able to use the Nikisi CPU’s physical address in order to receive packages via USPS, Fed Ex, and UPS that ordinarily would not be able to be delivered to PO boxes.

Peppinger: “The key thing is please sign up for it tho, just don’t do this, don’t just use Nikiski’s PO box address, physical address and the box number. You’ve got to sign up for it and then they’ll show you the proper format to use. Because it will be key, you want that identifier for that box number but you don’t say PO box and thats for packages.”

Some of the other advantages are electronic notifications of packages and box holders may also keep their signatures on record at the post office.
