On November 5, Kenai Police Department received a report of the American Legion building having been struck by a vehicle believed to have been driven by an impaired driver.
After the report at 5:40 pm, an officer located the suspects vehicle at a nearby apartment building.
Kenai resident Trudy Stillwell, 52, was arrested for driving under the influence and breath test refusal.
Before the arrest, 52 year-old Steven Mesa of Kenai was present during an officer’s interaction with Stillwell. At one point Mesa yanked Stillwell backwards into the apartment and slammed the door, threatening to get a gun when the officer knocked on the door and requested to speak to Stillwell.
The officer then identified himself again through the door and Mesa stated he was going to shoot through the door, telling the officer he was loading his gun.
Finally Steven Mesa stepped out and was arrested for assault in the fourth degree on a police officer and hindering prosecution in the 2nd degree.
Both Stillwell and Mesa were transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility.
