Local health challenge Phat to Fit is wrapping up its 6th season tonight after ten weeks of hard work from the 16 contestants.
Robyn Sullens worked to create the program and detailed one of the participants’ essays that particularly demonstrated the point of the competition.
Sullens: “One of the things that was in there was, ‘I’m tired of being caged in my own body, I’m tired of living in my own prison inside myself’ and that just reached out and just grabbed my heart so much because how many people out there are living with obesity, and I’m not talking about a few pounds overweight I mean obesity on the verge of death, they cant breathe, they cant walk, they cant hike, they can’t do anything. Phat to fit isn’t about getting skinny, phat to fit is about moving your body and getting your limbs moving and able to do those things and building up your endurance and your cardio so that you can still eat and enjoy yourself, but all in moderation.”
Tonight prizes will be given to contestants who earned points in a variety of ways like participation in challenges, food logs, weekly workouts, weight loss as well as others throughout the ten weeks.
Sullens: “The first place is a thousand dollars to the grand prize winner and of course the real prize is the losing of the weight, 2nd place gets five hundred dollars, people choice award which is a voting pool that we do on our website, they win two hundred dollars and a pair of running shoes from Sweeneys.”
To cheer on participants or learn more about the program the Phat to Fit finale will be at 6 pm this evening at Stanley Ford in Kenai.
