The Central Peninsula Hospital has been working steadily on its new specialties clinic and on Tuesday night will run another land acquisition by the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly.
The ordinance is up for public hearing and Assembly President Dale Bagley outlined how it came about.
Bagley: “It’s the building there on Binkley, it’s not on the side facing the hospital, but it’s on the other side and the doctor that was there, I think it was a doctor who was doing some work in Homer and Soldotna if I remember right, has talked to the hospital about selling the building and the hospital as said yes and they’re running it through the assembly.”
If approved the ordinance would appropriate $604,000 from the CPGH Inc. Plant Replacement and Expansion Fund.
Bagley said when the idea of the Hospital Expansion was brought forward in the early 2000s it was met with some uncertainty.
Bagley: “You know it’s kind of like if we built it, the doctors will come. It was kind of a nervous strategy but I’ll tell you what, the growth of our hospital in this area has been phenomenal. I’ve always disliked losing all that business to Anchorage or to the lower 48 somewhere. I think it’s great that we’re starting to get a lot specialist in this area and we can take care of our medical needs right here at home and not have to travel somewhere to do it.”
The Borough Assembly meeting will begin at 6:00 pm Tuesday, November 25 in the Assembly Chambers.
