After a visitor to a Wildwood inmate noticed a variety of injuries, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of an assault that had happened among three prisoners on November 22.
According to court documents, during Trooper investigation, James Cook, who is in custody for the Gaswell standoff which happened in August of 2013, was accused of being a part of a significant beating that took place in the victim’s cell.
When Cook was contacted in Wildwood by Troopers, he denied having been a part of the beating, stating that he was present when it started however when second prisoner started beating the victim, Cook said he pulled him back to stop the fight.
Troopers then reportedly asked Cook why he had accompanied the other inmate into the victims room which he replied he was there in case something happened because the other inmate was angry with the victim.
Troopers also contacted the other inmate who was accused of taking part in the beating however they refused to answer any questions related to the incident.
Cook was arraigned November 25 on the felony charges of Assault 2 – Injury w/ Weapon, Intent, and Assault 3- Cause Fear Of Injury w/ Weap and a preliminary hearing has been set for December 5.
