A pair of second-period goals and solid goaltending lead the Kenai Kardinals to a 2-1 North Star Conference win over the Homer Mariners on Tuesday in Homer.
Following a scoreless first period, the Kardinals scored the game’s first goal just 1:02 into the second period with Cody Arbelovsky scoring a 4 on 3 power play goal for a 1-0 Kenai lead. Late in the second period an following a Mariner goal, Dalton Dosko scored a short-handed goal at 13:39 to give the Kardinals a 2-1 advantage.
Nate O’Lena, in goal for Kenai, made the lead hold-up with 11, third-period saves in the third. Final score: Kenai 2, Homer 1. O’Lena recorded 31 saves for the contest, guarding the goal in a penalty-filled contest.
