Next Tuesday there will be a town hall meeting at the Kenai Challenger Learning Center in regards to local government and marijuana.

Local trial lawyer Eric Derleth has helped organize this first meeting of the Kenai Community Coalition on Cannabis (KCCC).

Derleth: “People who have never been around cannabis users have this idea in their head about how we are and starting February 24 we can actually bring some marijuana to town hall meetings and I can’t wait to see some of the reactions of the local people, just try to hand it to them and let them look at it, they will treat it like plutonium, it’s just a plant it’s not going to jump up and bite you and alcohol is ten times more dangerous you don’t spend a lot of time being concerned and fearful of that, even in the community drunk driving’s a big problem but you just hope you’re not in the wrong place at the wrong time so cannabus, being so much more innocuous of a substance. It’s literally the safer substance to choose for adult use.”

Kenai Mayor Pat Porter has already been talking to her constituents about what they would like and Kenai Borough Assemblyman Kelly Wolf has said he has plans to bring forward an ordinance “to control the issue of pot farms being established within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.”

That meeting will be at the Kenai Challenger Learning Center at 6:00 pm on December 16.
