This winter’s fluctuating temperatures have left a lot to be desired in outdoor Alaskan sports.
Brad Nelson with Central Emergency Services gave us a report of lake ice findings around the peninsula.
Nelson: “There are a few lakes where you might get away with being on the edge type thing but the refuge was saying that the ice isn’t even thick enough for them to go check the cabins and I’ve just talked to some of the guys who have been out trying to go ice fishing and such and they said they haven’t found any successful lakes anywhere yet. So it’s bad ice everywhere pretty much.”
As of now Central Emergency Services has not had any calls for anyone falling through lake ice but he said everyone should be very careful while near lakes.
