This year was another record year for the annual “Shop with a Firefighter” event.
Brad Nelson with Central Emergency Services said they helped over twenty children in need this year.
Nelson: “Well ya know it’s really cool we take the kids out there and they have the amount of money that they can spend and of course it depends on how much money we’ve raised and how many kids we have and each year it’s really cool because we say you have this amount of money and you can spend it however you want and inevitably they always want to spend money on their brothers, sisters or parents. You’d expect a kid, which is age appropriate, to be self centered and work on themselves but it happens, they always spend on each other which is awesome to see and just kind of gives you faith in humanity again.”
He said the whole community offered donations.
Nelson: “Money came in from of course firefighters ourselves put in money, we had money come in from the community, as well as Peak, the Catholic Church also donated money, we had as I said over 20 kids spend all the money and we had the Church of God out there wrapping all the gifts for the kids as well as Fred Meyer employees and Fred Meyer staff that dedicated a line just for the kids so the whole program went very very good this year and just another example of how this town always come together for a good cause.”
