Nearly $40,000 has been raised for an Anchor Point family after a serious car accident on Christmas Day where an 11 year-old girl was severely injured.

The accident happened while 29 year-old Mathany Christine Satterwhite and her 11 year-old daughter were driving home after a Christmas dinner and the blue 1994 Toyota truck they were in broke down near mile 145.5 of the Sterling Highway.

It was 6pm and dark when 51-year-old Nathan Sargeant of Anchor Point pull over to help and he parked his white 1997 Dodge van in front of the truck for a jump start.

Satterwhite was connecting the cables in poor lighting, the truck had no power and no lights and only one of the van’s headlights could be seen by passing traffic. As she and her passenger were standing between the van and truck, when a green 1999 Toyota SUV came into view.

The driver, 29-year-old Larry Pyatt of Anchor Point couldn’t see the truck, but noticed the van’s headlight and tried to stop, but his car slid on the slushy roads and hit the truck, throwing Satterwhite into a ditch and pinning the second female, Satterwhite’s 11 year old daughter Angelica Haakenson.

Both females suffered serious injuries. Both Satterwhite and her unborn baby survived the accident.

Haakenson was medivaced to Anchorage where it was determined she had multiple spinal fractures and was sent to emergency surgery where both her legs had to be amputated above the knee.

In the three days since the accident $39,850 has been raised on a gofundme.com page.

Haakenson stabilized enough to have an additional surgery Saturday and according to facebook updates has been awake.

For anyone interested, donations may be made through Angelica’s gofundme.com page and Wells Fargo has set up an account for donations listed as the Angelica Haakenson Fund. That account number is 2413583861.
