Tree Caused K-Beach Outage

Homer Electric Association members have been experiencing power outages across the Peninsula since yesterday afternoon due to stormy weather.

Joe Gallagher said around 1 am this morning HEA responded to an outage on K-Beach.

Gallager: “Due to a tree on the power line near the Duck Inn on K-Beach Road. HEA crews responded and they did have power fully restored to all members affected by that outage by 2:30 this morning.”

HEA is also waiting for weather to allow them to get to Seldovia where the Gerry Willard Generation Plant is being used to provide power to most of the customers affected by an outage that began last night. There are still about 91 meters that are without power between the McDonal Spit and McKeon Flats.

Gallagher said with these warm, windy winters it’s important for people to keep emergency preparations.

Gallagher: “It’s always good for any situation, especially in Alaska during the winter to have a good supply of water, good supply of food, flashlights, batteries, those kinds of things just in the event that there would be a situation where there was an extended period where you’re not going to have power, it’s always a good idea, anywhere you live but especially in Alaska where we can have cold temperatures and at times major weather incidences that could lead to prolonged power outages.”
