The Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars finally faced-off in North Star Conference hockey action on Thursday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex and the game was worth the wait.
Kenai 3 – SoHi 2
The Kardinals rallied with two third-period goals to defeat the Stars 3-2; the game-winner scored by Kenai’s Cody Arbelovski with only :31 seconds remaining in regulation time.
The Stars scored the game’s first goal early in the first period and held a 1-0 lead after one period. Kenai tied the game on a SoHi own goal, credited to Jacob O’Brien, late in the second period. SoHi opened the third with a goal by Coel Nelson to give the Stars a 2-1 advantage. Ian Mercado answered with a game-tying goal for Kenai, setting-up the Kardinals dramatic game-winner by Arbelovski.
