The Borough Assembly discussed Mayor Mike Navarre’s ordinance to appropriate $200,000 at the January 6 meeting which would create a task force to investigate ways to save on healthcare.

There was testimony from five local healthcare providers who wished to see fair representation if the task force is created, including Surgery Center of Kenai’s Scott Carlson.

Carlson: “Public and private healthcare I think together are all interested in this, this is something that we in private healthcare have been moving forward on and I believe public healthcare, we did get to meet with the mayor a little bit ago and he has quite an agenda and I believe he has a good goal to get health care costs lowered, it’s pretty uncontrolled and there’s some dangerous things out there that we can’t control but anyways I’m here to offer my services.”

Mayor Navarre said no one has been chosen for the task force yet as the ordinance was only introduced.

Further public testimony is scheduled for that ordinance at the assembly’s February 10 meeting.
