The Mountain View Elementary Site Council will hold a meeting to include parents into the district’s shift to ALICE as a response in the case of violent intruders.

ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate though not necessarily in that order.

Mountain View Principal Karl Kircher said this is the next logical step in the implementation of ALICE.

Kircher: “Administrators were informed about it, we had a meeting with the Kenai Police Department and our teachers. This meeting will be with the Kenai Police Department to help inform our parents about the new ALICE system for dealing with intruders in our school.

He said there will also be future training specific to Mt. View.

Kircher: “Eventually we will have the Kenai Police Department work with each of our grade level teams to design age appropriate ways to talk to our children about this.”

That meeting will be held at 4:00 pm on January 15 in the school library and is open to the public.
