The Alaska Joint Board of Fisheries and Game met this morning and rejected three of the four candidates for state Fish and Game Commissioner.

The department’s acting commissioner Sam Cotten was the only applicant to advance for possible consideration by Gov. Bill Walker.

Walker named Cotten as acting commissioner when he took office in December.

Yesterday Cotten appointed Charles Swanton as Deputy Commissioner for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Swanton has been the Director of the Division of Sport Fish since 2007.

The joint board voted not to interview local drifter Roland Maw, along with out of state applicants Zachary Hill, and Matt Moore.
