The Cook Inlet renaissance and Nikiski developments have put a squeeze on housing in Kenai.
Kenai Mayor Pat Porter…
Mayor Porter: “There’s hardly any rental space available at all, neither office space, warehouse space, and or home rentals or apartments is very tight. If we have continued interest in the Nikiski area for all the developments going on out there, Kenai is definitely a place that investors are going to want to put some housing or new office buildings.”
She said that it has been good for the local economy though.
Mayor Porter: “In Kenai in 2014 there were 95 homes sold in the city of Kenai which was up 20 from last year which was quite an increase and the vacant lots that were sold in 2013 were eight and this last year 34 lots sold so that definitely shows that there is some renaissance going on in our town as to interests to put homes and businesses on.”
Due to those numbers there are two new large subdivisions moving into the area.
Mayor Porter: “Shoreline Heights which has got 47 lots and 21 of those have bluff views, you don’t find those too often and it’s a brand new section and then there’s a subdivision also going to be opening up across from Thompson Park.”
