Cannabis Meeting Tonight, Borough Assembly Tomorrow

The second meeting of the Kenai Community Coalition on Cannabis plans to address an ordinance Assemblyman Kelly Wolf plans to introduce.

The ordinance would prohibit the operation of marijuana cultivation facilities in the borough, outside of cities, subject to voter approval.

Mark Theiler has been instrumental in organizing the coalition and said they have contacted many local leaders in an effort to have a community Q & A at the meeting.

Theiler: “Hopefully Kelly Wolf shows up or any local politician that wants to come and ask some questions or just take a stand or just ask critical questions or concerns and also then have other community members do the same thing.”

He also said the meeting will focus on formalizing the idea of working groups formed of community members.

Theiler: “It’d be upwards of about 7 working groups with three to eight members for each working group that would have a specific element to focus on whether it’s transporation, whether it’s workplace safety, whether it’s edibles concerns, and then some other key issues whether it’s veteran’s affairs and what to do with military medical access and some other things. These groups then will have their own meetings and will do some due dilligence to put together as much information as they can on that topic.”

Theiler said the group also plans to stream the meeting live via their youtube channel.

That meeting will take place at 6-8 pm Monday, January 19, at the Kenai Challenger Learning Center.

The Borough Assembly meeting will be at 6 pm Tuesday, January 20 in the assembly chambers in Soldotna.
