A resolution to request the Department of Public safety to add a trooper detail to the community of Nikiski will be introduced to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly tonight.
Ann Krogseng with the Nikiski Community Action Group said the group has been pushing for some action.
Krogseng: “What’s always impressed me about the community is our ability to address the issues that are going on out here and look for solutions and we’re very appreciative of Assemblymen Ogle and Wolf for listening to us and coming up with this resolution.”
The Nikiski Community Action Group was formed last year during a series of meetings in regards to property crimes in the area.
During those meetings, hundreds of Nikiski residents banded together to discuss the problem with the branches of the Alaska State Troopers, State Legislators, and local representatives.
Krogseng acknowledged the current state fiscal situation but said the resolution just asked that a current trooper position be relocated to the area.
Krogseng: “It’s just a shuffling is the way that I see it, versus a brand new area of service out here so it’s simply a shuffling around and if anything it will provide a deterrent for those individuals who think that Nikiski is open for business.”
The resolution is being introduced by Assembly Members Kelly Wolf and Wayne Ogle during the January 20th meeting which will begin at 6 pm in the Soldotna Borough Assembly Chambers.
