A strong third period pushed the Homer Mariners passed the Kenai Kardinals 7-1 in North Star Conference hockey action on Thursday night at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
The Kardinals, after allowing two first period goals, scored their only goal just :25 seconds into the second period by Tristen Bulot to draw to within a goal at 2-1. Kenai looked in position to tie the game at the start of the third period; as the Kards, down 2-1, opened the period with a power play opportunity. However, Homer scored a short-handed goal just :33 seconds into the third and added four additional goals in the period for a 7-1 Mariner victory. Kiril Sanarov scored four goals for the Mariners, including three in the third.
The Kardinals and Soldotna Stars face-off to close the regular season next Saturday, January 31. SoHi travels to Anchorage for games on Friday against East and Saturday against Dimond at Ben Boeke Arena.
