HEA Works to Inform Customers of Scam

Author: KSRM News Desk |

Multiple suspicious calls to local businesses were reported yesterday and Homer Electric Association confirmed a scam targeting Kenai Peninsula residents and business owners.

Joe Gallagher with HEA said each report confirmed the caller claiming to be an HEA representative, demanding payment, and even the caller ID also showed HEA.

Gallagher: “The message is, if there is any suspicion on your part that it is not Homer Electric that you’re dealing with, end the call and let us know.”

He said that about a dozen Kenai Peninsula residents and business owners have reported the activity to HEA recently.

Gallagher: “And these types of scams are seen across the country, utilities across the country see these on a continual basis.  We have let the Troopers know but there is really not much they can do. Really we just want to make sure our members know that Homer Electric is not going to make a call and demand that you make a payment with your credit card or your power’s going to go off in 20 minutes. That is not what we do, that’s not how we operate.”

Anyone who thinks they have been targeted my call HEA at (907) 235-8551, (907) 283-5831 or 1 (800) 478-8551.
