Stars & Kards Qualify 20 To State Wrestling: State Tournament Begins Friday

The Northern Lights Conference Wrestling Championships crowned team and individual champions in high school wrestling following two days of competition at Soldotna Prep School.

 

The Colony Knights were crowned team champions, repeating their 2014 championship, and again held-off the Wasilla Warriors.

The Soldotna Stars and Kenai Kardinals finished third and sixth, respectively.

 

Indivdual championships were won by:

SoHi’s Austin Craig, 113 pounds: 3rd straight conference championship.

SoHi’s Seth Hutchison, 120 pound: 3rd straight conference championship.

Kenai’s Paul Steffensen, 145 pounds: second NLC title

Kenai’s Ellery Steffensen, 152 pounds: 4th straight NLC title and undefeated season

State Qualifiers for SoHi and Kenai

SoHi’s Ryan Winter, 132 pounds: NLC runner-up

Kenai’s Dylan Carter, 170 pounds: NLC runner-up

SoHi’s Dalton Best, 285 pounds: NLC runner-up

SoHi’s Bailey Blumientritt, 160 pounds: 3rd in NLC

SoHi’s Sage Hill, 195 pounds: 3rd in NLC

Kenai’s Matt Vamdermartin, 138 pounds: 4th in NLC

SoHi Eli Damon, 152 pounds: 4th in NLC

Kenai’s Zach Koziczkowski, 285 pounds: 4th in NLC

Kenai’s Tyler Vaughan, 106 pounds: 6th in NLC

Kenai’s Natalie Chavez, 106 pounds: Will wrestle in girls state division

SoHi Logan Schrader, 138 pound: 6th in NLC

Kenai’s Keyshawn McEnerny, 145 pound: 5th in NLC

SoHi’s Talon Musgrave, 145 pound: 6th in NLC

SoHi’s Hunter Bourgeois, 160 pound: 5th in NLC

SoHi James Gallagher, 195 pounds: 6th in NLC

SoHi’s Tyler Macrae, 220 pounds: 5th in NLC

 

The top six wrestlers in each weight class advance to the 2015 ASAA 4A State Wrestling Championships scheduled for Chugiak High School on Friday and Saturday, February 6th and 7th.
