The Kenai Governor’s Inaugural Ball transformed the Old Carrs Mall on Friday night, hosting around 400 attendees.

Walking into the event revealed the month long process which was headed up by the Kenai Peninsula Inaguration Ball Committee’s Co-chai Sarah Pozonsky.

Pozonsky: “It’s just a cool mix of every type of person, the Lt. Gov. being a Democrat, the Governor being formerly Republican now Independant, it’s just bringing a really cool group of people together that we haven’t seen before in a long time even our committee is a beautiful mix and I just love it. There’s a ton of energy and I think there’s excitement for something new and it’s just awesome. You saw how beautiful it was in there, I don’t think the Kenai Carrs Mall has ever looked that beautiful ever.”

The Alaska Flag Song, traditional native dance, along with the Kenaitze Indian Tribe’s presentation of Chief necklaces to Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott punctuated the festivities.

Pozonsky said despite having a short timeline in order to be able to fit the Governor’s busy schedule, everything came together beautifully.

Pozonsky: “I think the aim for tonight is just building unity, this is a first for Alaskans and I am very pleased to see how people are interacting, people who never interact before, who are in far seperate sides of their political veiws are coming together tonight and that is just a fantastic thing for Alaska.”
