Maw’s BOF Confirmation Pushed to March

Local drifter Roland Maw’s confirmation to the Board of Fisheries has been postponed, likely until March.

On February 2 the House Resources Committee canceled a hearing about Maw’s appointment after committee co-chair Dave Talerico said he received a substantial amount of public feedback about it.

Gov. Bill Walker appointed Maw in January, but has not yet announced whether he will reappoint Orville Huntington, whose term ends in June, or replace him.

Rep. Talerico said he received more than 50 calls and emails about Maw’s nomination and the focus of the scheduling is to accommodate the public, not to consolidate hearings for members.

Maw said he was preparing for his first board meeting, scheduled to begin February 23 in Sitka before the cancellation.
