Representative Tammie Wilson introduced a bill on February 11 to eliminate boards of fisheries and game-generated proposals.
It would change how the state boards make regulations, allowing them to adopt, amend and repeal regulations only if the proposals are brought forward by an advisory committee, state agency, or individual petitioning the board.
According to Rep. Wilson the boards are intended as a way for the public to speak, not for the boards to create their own rules.
In 2013 the joint boards decided that before proposals are used, they should consider whether the proposals are in the public’s best interest, if public comment can be taken, if the issue is urgent, and if there is a different process to change the regulation that could be used.
