Congressman Don Young, known for making unusual statements, was again in the spotlight this week after reproving his colleagues for their views on a certain threatened species.
The Department of the Interior de-listed gray wolves as a threatened species in the Lower 48. Young applauded the move yesterday and condemned those who wanted the Department to reverse their decision.
Rep. Young(R-AK): “The gray wolf, in fact, is a predator, which is killing animals. And we have 70 congressman sending you a letter don’t have a damn in their whole district. I’d like to introduce them to your district. I introduce them to your district, you wouldn’t have a homeless problem anymore.”
In a release issued later that day, Young’s office said his comments were hyperbolic, meant to illustrate the effect of gray wolves on communities.
Young also expressed frustration with a lack of consultation with the state and native groups on issues.
