A Chugiak lawmaker hopes to prioritize personal use fisheries over others in times of low abundance.
Sen. Bill Stoltze’s bill will be picked up today by the Senate State Affairs Committee, which he chairs. The bill would direct the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to view personal use opportunity as more important than commercial or sport fishing if there are concerns about a stock.
The bill would not supersede subsistence fishing opportunity.
