We’re getting into the heart of this Legislative session with lawmakers taking public testimony on some key issues.
Today the Senate Finance Committee will take time to hear the public’s feelings about the decriminalization of marijuana. Chuck Kopp from State Senator Peter Micciche’s office said they’ve considered upper limit for how much marijuana an adult can have at home of 16 ounces.
Kopp: “Under the initiative we know that the three mature plants in the home can produce 3-4 ounces each, some say even more. So it’s possible under the initiative you could have 12, 13, 14 ounces legally at home. It is harder to keep this vegetative matter fresh. But we needed to establish a line where it would be almost a de facto, ‘you’re ready to distribute if you possess this much.'”
Kopp said one ounce of marijuana is 60 joints; compared to alcohol, he called it a keg. Kopp said any more than that could be interpreted as an “intent to distribute.”
