Unemployment Steady Through Winter

The Bureau of Labor Statistics found Alaska’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was steady in  from December to January at 6.3 percent.

 

The comparable national rate rose, but is still below the Alaskan figure at 5.7 percent.

 

Generally unemployment rate peak during January and February each year. Only five out of 29 Boroughs saw an increase in jobs, mostly in the Aleutians for the onset of the pollock fishery and other winter species.

 

Compared to last year, the Kenai Peninsula’s unemployment rate is down, from 9.3 percent this time last year to 8.9 percent.
