A bill which would prioritize personal use fisheries above all others, except subsistence fishing, has passed through a Senate Committee.

The bill was authored by the chair of the State Affairs Committee and passed today after taking public testimony.

Members of the public testified in support of the bill from Fairbanks and Chugiak. One in Kasilof was in opposition.

Senator Charlie Huggins of Wasilla said he supported the bill, but would like more information about the history of personal use fisheries when the bill is heard in Senate Resources, where the bill is expected next.
