At noon today law enforcement agencies gave additional information about the remains found north of Kenai on Saturday.
Lt. Ross: “To start with our hearts really go out to the families of the missing people, they’ve been through a long ordeal as well as many of their friends and the people in the community so hopefully we start to move closer to a resolution for them.”
Lt. Dave Ross and Special Agent Steven Forest confirmed that from what has been preliminarily found at the scene they are confident there are four bodies that belong to the Kenai family that went missing last spring, however said the investigation is still very active.
There was also the remains of a dog which matched the size of the family’s dog ‘Sparks’ that was also missing, along with a handgun.
Ross said the hand gun’s serial number matched a gun box which was found in the family’s residence but he could not comment on whether or not it had been fired due to the ongoing investigation.
During the conference Ross was asked to assess how much time had gone into this investigation to which he replied he did not think he could fully compile the time Kenai Police Officers, the FBI, other state agencies, dog search teams, volunteers, and community members had put forward.
Lt. Ross: “There was another facet to the investigation that wasn’t just searching woods, it was investigating any possible other sightings or anything that may have happened to them. Looking for them in the area was just one facet of it so it was a huge investigative effort.
