Rumors of a man dressed in black wearing a mask and carrying a hatchet have been spreading faster than the Funny River Fire.
Soldotna Police Chief Peter Mlynarik said the initial report was simply that two pre-teen boys saw the masked man in the woods and ran away. The hatchet was mentioned, but not by the boys…
Chief Mlynarik: “That was basically it, that they saw this guy and they ran away. That was the gist of what we got from the kids. Neither of them said that the guy actually chased them. We checked for any homeless camps out there and didn’t find anything like that.”
Chief Mlynarik said they always encourage people to report suspicious circumstances, but he doesn’t believe there’s someone dangerous on the loose.
