Roach Convicted of Theft and Scheming From Local Heroes

A jury deliberated six hours yesterday(April 1) before convicting 55 year-old Frank Roach of nine felony counts for embezzlement.

 

He was one of four founding members for the local non-profit Alaska Veterans Outreach Boxes for Heroes which raised more than $140,000 between April 2010 and October 2011.

 

Prosecutors say he hired people to solicit donations in front of stores, saying the intent was to send  send care packages to deployed soldiers.

 

Much of the money was used for living expenses according to prosecutors but Roach said he had unintentionally misrepresented himself an his organization.

 

He will be sentenced July 9.
