Senate Finance Unveiling Capital Budget Today

Projects nearing completing and those with a federal match are the most likely to be funded in today’s Senate Finance Capital Budget release.

The Committee has been working all week on their version of the budget which they say will be smaller than the outline proposed by Governor Bill Walker.

Senator Anna MacKinnon chairs the Committee and said the state simply cannot afford to finance many projects and communities must lower their expectations for infrastructure funding.

Locally, Kenai City Manager Rick Koch said he’s prepared for few, if any projects…

Koch: “I have very low expectations for any appropriations in the capital budget. Our state finds itself in a fairly precarious financial situation, one that I’m confident we’ll work through.”

MacKinnon said she’ll prioritize projects which are already underway or are receiving federal grants.
