This Legislative session is scheduled to end in just nine days and Governor Bill Walker is yet to fulfill his campaign promise…
Gov. Walker: “Start covering those 30 or 40,000 people that are receiving healthcare at our expense.”
But some lawmakers insist the system is fundamentally broken. Speaker Mike Chenault said there are a number of concerns about the benefits of expansion and current problems…
Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “Whether that’s the computer program, the tracking program, and how’s that really working and what’s it going to take to bring that up to speed so that providers get paid when they provide the services, because it’s my understanding that there are providers out there now that have either declared bankruptcy or are very close to it, because we’ve got a computer program that doesn’t work.”
Even if lawmakers don’t approve expansion, Governor Walker may legally seek authority from the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee to accept and spend federal expansion funds.
Walker’s office insists the Governor wants to work with legislators.
