KPBSD Pleased with ALICE Response

The Kenai Peninsula School District and Kenai Police Department complimented the quick coordination of students, staff and officers during a short lockdown at Kenai Central High School yesterday.

School Administration has been implementing ALICE training locally, which stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate though not necessarily in that order.

Pegge Erkeneff said the threatening text between students Tuesday afternoon demonstrated the correct response and use of ALICE.

Erkeneff: “We’ve been doing a lot of training with law enforcement in our schools and with our staff and our students. Alan Fields, our principal at Kenai Central, said that it worked great, he was really proud of all of the kids in the school and the staff and the police department. We’ve been working specifically around if we have a lockdown because of an intruder and different protocols for that and we’ve been doing that for all of our schools, we’re really pleased with the training that we’re instigating and the learning that’s happening for everybody.”

There was no intruder in the school, but after a threatening text between students KCHS was shut down for about 40 minutes Tuesday.
