The Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received a report of a flipped canoe floating in Trail Lake yesterday around 9 pm.
Witnesses on scene said the only known occupant of the canoe was 33 year-old Matt Asturi of Nevada who had been consuming alcohol prior to going out in the canoe.
He was seen paddling the boat without a life jacket 15 minutes before the initial 911 call.
Moose Pass Fire Department, Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Crown Point Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene with personnel and two boats but were unable to locate Asturi.
After an extensive search of the lake and shore Monday night, it was called off for the evening.
Asturi’s next of kin have been notified.
The search was resumed this morning and is still ongoing with boats, air assets and ground searchers along the shore.
