The search for a missing canoeist has been called off after a week-long operation involving underwater sonar scans along with the more traditional search by boat, air, and along the shoreline.
33-year-old Matt Asturi from Las Vegas went missing April 20th. Troopers were called just after 9pm when Asturi’s canoe was found flipped over on Trail Lake.
Witnesses said Asturi had been consuming alcohol prior to going out in the canoe and was seen paddling it 15 minutes before the 911 call. Asturi was not wearing a lifejacket.
Moose Pass Fire Department, Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and Crown Point AST responded to the scene with personnel and two boats but were unable to locate the missing man.
Asturi’s next of kin has been notified.
