Alaska Launches Marijuana Webpage

Alaska’s Department of Health and Social Services has launched a marijuana fact webpage.

Dawnell Smith with the department said that they designed the website from a public health standpoint.

Smith: “We want to make sure people know the health implications, the law, families know how to talk to their children, that people understand the outcomes of using marijuana whether it’s by smoking or consuming. Honestly there is so much happening on this issue, the regulations are still being build, it’s all still very new so we just keep people informed the best we can.”

She said that when it forms, the Marijuana Control Board will likely have their own website but DHSS’s will have links to updates on state regulations that are created in the coming months.

Smith: “People are visiting Alaska and they think hey it’s legal in Alaska, it’s important for visitors to know what the law is right now it’s important for residents to know and we’re just getting that information out there.“

Smith added that they worked with states like Colorado and Oregon, who have also legalized recreational marijuana, to learn what mishaps to avoid and educational tactics that worked or didn’t.
