New regulations coming from the Alcohol Beverage Control Board  today will communities to opt-out or limit commercial and retail marijuana sales. A similar option is currently in place for alcohol sales.

The ABC has been working through first set of draft marijuana regulations in Anchorage today.

The task of establishing marijuana regulations will transfer this summer to a 5-member marijuana board, which is yet to be formed. As of noon yesterday, 89 people have applied for those positions.

The Department of Law will hold a public comment period on the draft regulations. A follow up meeting will likely be held in July.

The Board also formalized the emergency regulations which define “public places” where marijuana is prohibited.
