Legislators Must Touch Base With Constituents: Chenault

Most legislators have left Juneau this week, contrary to the Governor’s wishes…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “I like to come back and see what my constituents are thinking. I get a lot of emails. I get a lot of emails from a lot of different groups out there, but I like to find out what my constituents are talking about. Are they talking about the same thing that I’m getting emails about or not? It’s good for legislators to come back to their districts while session’s going on and making sure that they are representing their districts.”

Speaker of the State House Mike Chenault is on the Kenai Peninsula this week, joining Rep. Kurt Olson and Sen. Peter Micciche at today’s Joint Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

As the Senate and House Finance Committee continue their meetings, one of the more controversial decisions they’ll make is whether to cancel negotiated pay raises.

Chenault was asked how his caucus could approve a reversal on that promise…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “No one knew at that time that e would be $3.5 billion in debt for just this year alone and you can figure the same for next year, if not more.”

Today’s lunch starts at noon at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. RSVPs were required.
