Eagle River Representative Lora Reinbold will be in Kenai to host a meeting on Common Core in Alaska tonight(May 5).
Rep. Reinbold: “I will be speaking first, and then Nathan MacPherson will be speaking about the constitutionality, the lack thereof, of the Common Core, according to our constitution and then Burt Wenters, he’s a very energetic speaker, he will be speaking at the end. And then we will be taking a lot of questions and answers towards the end.”
She said that many people in Alaska do not believe that local schools are teaching common core but they in fact are.
Rep. Reinbold: “I have letters and I will be showing those letters tonight that show that Common Core and the Alaska Academic Standard are almost identical. And these are letters from high level officials such as Commissioner [Mike] Hanley, and also I’d like to point out that the Anchorage School District has fully adopted the Common Core and those exact same AMP tests that are being given in Anchorage are the same tests being given statewide so it’s just ridiculous to say that we’re not doing Common Core in Alaska.”
This is Rep. Reinbold’s 12th symposium on the subject, called Unveiling the Common Core, where she delves into the four pillars of Common Core, how the change in education impacts students, and the circumstances which spurred the movement.
She will appear on the Tall, Dark and Handsome Show on KSRM 920 AM at 4 pm before hosting the meeting from 5:30 – 9 pm at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association Building on K-Beach.
