The Kodiak Bears opened their week on the Peninsula for high school baseball with an 8-2 victory over the Kenai Kardinals.
Kenai opened the scoring with a one-run, first inning collecting three hits. That would be the end of the Kardinal offense as Kodiak starting pitcher Jake Arnold recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed only one additional run. The Bears scored two runs in the second inning to tie the game and took the lead on a single run in the third.
For the Kardinals, Sam Combs picks up the loss on the mound.
The Kardinals and Bears return to the Kenai baseball facility for game two of the series on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
