Homer Electric Association saw increased voter turnout for their annual board member elections this year.
Joe Gallagher with HEA said the election results were announced at last night’s annual meeting at Homer High School Thursday(May 7) night.
Gallagher: “District one, the Kenai area and Nikiski area, David Thomas who ran unopposed was the winner. In District two, that’s the Soldotna, Sterling and Kasilof, the winner was Dave Carey, also and incumbent, was the winner with 942 votes and his opponent, Andrew Alexandrou received 276 votes. In District 3, that’s south end of the system, the Ninilchik, Homer and Kachemak Bay area the winner was Don Stead. Don had 766 votes, Jim Levine was in second place with 552 votes and Joe Singleton received 211 votes.”
He added that about 3,700 people voted in the 2015 election, nearly 400 more than previously.
Around 200 people attended the annual meeting in Homer.
Gallagher: “As you might expect, people were interested in Homer Elected projects, including independent life, and of course rates. It was a real good discussion and I think the folks who attended enjoyed the meeting.”
