This year’s state budget is still in flux, but Borough Mayor Mike Navarre anticipates the Assembly will fund the School District to the cap once the State decides what that cap is…
KPB Mayor Navarre: “It’s likely this year. The reason it’s likely to happen this year is they put their budget together and with the reduction s that have been made at the state level, they’re likely to have a significant shortfall.”
Navarre said the Assembly would be wise to fund the District to the cap this year, to make sure public education survives the next few years of low oil prices.
KPB Mayor Navarre: “Even if they don’t use it all this year, or if they do use it all and they preserve some of their fund balances… because if they use up all their fund balances and then we fund to the cap, that’s all we have available.”
The Borough is limited in how much it can spend on schools. Mayor Navarre pointed out that the School’s reserve fund will ensure they can continue to meet expenses if the Borough’s cap continues to drop in future years.
