Local Contractor Hired for Municipal Park Bid

Thanks to a provision allowing local bidders a 5% margin, Northstar Construction was last night awarded a $99,935 contract for Kenai’s Municipal Park.

Councilor Bob Molloy said he was pleased to see the City’s local preference option used…

Cm. Molloy: “They employ local residents and spend money in the community, so I was happy to see that the local preference was used one time.”

The project will replace older playground equipment with new pieces, and install additional timber edging and wood fiber to match the rest of the existing park. There was also a suggestion to remove a mature spruce tree, but the City decided not to include that option at this time.

The absolute low bidder was Spernak & Son from Anchorage, nearly $1,000 cheaper at $98,950.
