NLC Soccer Championships Open With Upsets

The  2015 Northern Lights Conference Soccer Championships opened competition on Thursday with first-round games at both Palmer and Colony High School.  Semi-final games are set for Friday and the third-place and championship games set for Saturday.  The top three teams will advance to the ASAA 4A Soccer State Championships.

 

First Round Highlights

The SoHi girls, #1 South seed, dominated Palmer 9-1 and #1 North Wasilla shut out Nikiski 8-0.

In the boys bracket, #1 North seed Wasilla was upset by Homer 2-0  and #2 South seed SoHi fell to Grace Christian 2-1.  First round losers are eliminated from the tournament.

–Miranda Wolfe scores a four-goal, hat trick to lead the Stars.

Colony Girls 4 – Homer 0

Kenai Boys 3 – Palmer 0

–Two goals for Austin McKee in shut out of Palmer.

Colony Boys 9 – Kodiak 1

Kenai Girls 2 – Grace Christian 1

–Heidi Perkins and Hannah Drury score for the Kardinals.

Wasilla Girls 8 vs Nikiski 0

Soldotna Boys 1 – Grace Christian 2

–SoHI boys eliminated from tournament.

Wasilla Boys 0 – Homer 2  Extra Time

–#1 N seed eliminated from tournament with first-round loss.
